Drawings
I use vibrantly colored India ink on kozo paper to create weave-like patterns that reflect on relationships to place within the context of climate change. Seemingly abstract, the drawings synthesize multiple forms of record-keeping: map-making, charting, journaling, and close observation of micro and macro landscape—from the light filtering through a leaf to the feeling of walking around a body of water.
My drawings are an outgrowth of my weaving practice, evoking the softness and flexibility of cloth and building on the mathematical patterning of weaving, while also breaking away from the loom’s imposed logic. Rules are created and then broken. Systems are set in place and then changed.
