We live in a time of ever-worsening climate violence: fires, floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, droughts, crop failures, mass extinctions, cancers, Lyme, asthma, and more. Meanwhile, those in power expand fossil fuel extraction, seed divisiveness and hatred, and interfere with the production and safe keeping of climate knowledge. This is a politics of erasure within a system that intentionally obscures and attempts to sever relationships.

In response to this erasure and climate violence, I have created a feminist, material archive of climate knowledge, love, and loss. The works in “Beyond Measure” trace multiple forms of entanglement in the face of climate crisis, seeking out and re-weaving otherwise obscured relationships. I transform climate data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) into landscapes and waterscapes, using plant-derived fibers and dyes and petrochemical-derived medical tubing, sutures, and fishing line. These woven datascapes and coiled sculptures merge a practice of record keeping with a practice of grieving and merge an expression of scientific research with an expression of lived experience. They trace relationships between climate change, water, extractive industry, illness, and displacement; between disparate places; between personal and communal loss; and between corporeal and ecological bodies.

The exhibition includes a climate crisis reading room and the public is encouraged to sit and read during exhibition open hours, Wednesdays-Saturdays noon-6pm.

“Beyond Measure” is generously supported by Tulsa Artist Fellowship, a George Kaiser Family Foundation Initiative, with additional funding from Serenbe Fiber Focus Fellowship and the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition.
